DESCRIPTION: APW - Rockford, Grade 505 (marked), 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF recase, white enamel DS dial with Canadian market 13 to 24 hour numerals, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, large polished steel disk surrounding escape wheel jewel setting, gold jewel settings, gold train, mvt marked "RG" denoting Railroad Grade, spiral pattern nickel damascene, s#593932. A rare and beautiful movement with a total production of only 230 made. The Grade 505 and its hunting case equivalent Grade 500 were Rockford's finest quality 16 size movements.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with few micro-fine scratches, winding wheels and regulator assembly with oxide, larger winding wheel hub with fine scratch striations from a past sanding; dial with outer chapter hls at 6 and 7:30, small flaw to inner rim of outer chapter near 12:30; fine hands with some areas of oxide; case shows light wear, scratches to rear perimeter and to band suggesting possibility of a past attempt to open with a blade, scattered dings to band with the most prominent at 8:30 and numerous nicks throughout band, engine turning detail reduced at shoulders, bezel leaving a narrow gap to band in areas when threaded tight; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
